We know that church buildings offer unique challenges. Often these buildings are listed, which brings restrictions that require specific, careful consideration. We have experience of working with Diocese property managers to plan and carry out work to the highest standards with the utmost respect for these special and beautiful historic buildings. One key consideration for example are the aesthetics of the work we do, ensuring minimum visual impact of cables and distribution units. Whatever the work required we can be trusted to work sympathetically and safely.

Electrical Inspection and Test

We find that regular 5 year inspections are a sensible way to build up a profile of a church building. It means we are able to get to know a property. In the long term it means fewer problems and a safer environment for church staff and the public. It’s something insurance companies like to see done regularly and means we can see long term patterns of any deterioration with the electrics. If things start to change we can spot an issue long before it becomes a major problem keeping costs down and giving a property manager peace of mind when they may have many church buildings to look after.

Solar PV Services

With the restrictions imposed on listed properties we find that renewables are more suited to modern church buildings. With the space to accommodate multiple solar panels, this technology can be a good fit for many modern church buildings. Churches benefit in three ways from Solar PV technology. Firstly they generate their own power - a big consideration with energy prices continuing to increase. Secondly, they can make a profit with their Feed in Tariff, and thirdly they can make more profit on the Export Tariff. Read more about this in our solar pv feed-in-tariff section.

LED Lighting

This can be another effective way to reduce a church’s energy bill. LED lighting can significantly lower energy consumptions without losing lighting output. The long term reliability and excellent product warranties mean less property maintenance hassles. This can even have a positive impact on Health & Safety as it means fewer occasions when bulbs need changing requiring workmen, working at height and the subsequent disruption. There are lots of options available to suit a wide range of buildings, so get in-touch and we can offer the best advice for your needs and show you a range of quality samples.

PAT Testing

Portable appliance testing is another important way to help ensure a church is a safe environment. The Health & Safety Executive states that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. Norcroft offer dedicated PAT engineers (C&G 2377 & 2381 qualified) to provide a hassle-free service, from managing the testing programme to carrying out the works, through to producing the test reports. We also recommend you do your own visual checks at regular intervals and record them to meet the Code of Practice guidelines.

Testimonials

“When we needed some electrical work doing on our Church, Norcroft was recommended by a relative of mine. From Philip’s first visit I realised we were in safe hands. After discussing our needs Philip assessed the building and went away to work out the quote even returning at a later date to check the height of the chandler so he could save on cost if another type of scaffolding could be used, as our Church was not a run of the mill building. The men arrived on time working all day until 6pm although this was later than their usual finishing time the cleaning up was not neglected. I can fully recommend Norcroft.”

John M. Walton, Churchwarden, St Paul's Church, Old Town, Barnsley

“Cawthorne Church had last been rewired in the 1960s and rewiring was overdue. Norcroft Energy were chosen to undertake the work because of their past experience and longstanding support of works previously carried out at the Church. Great care was taken in selecting light fittings that would be in keeping with the character of the listed building. The lighting scheme was submitted to and approved by the Diocesan Church Lighting Adviser. Norcroft Energy undertook the work expeditiously and fitted it in between pre-planned church services. The final outcome is much appreciated.”

John A G Lees, Cawthorne All Saints Church

St Andrews Church, Penistone renewed the electrical heating system in 2011. We found Norcroft the cheapest of a number of quotes and we were very happy with the on-site visits, work and after-care to help us operate the system and iron out minor glitches. I am happy to recommend them.”

Rev David Hall, St Andrews Church, Penistone

“The Church of All Saints and St James the Greater is a Grade 1 Listed Building, of ancient monastic foundation dating from prior to 1060. We are very selective of any tradesmen who work on either, exterior or within the confines of the building, particularly the interior fabric. Norcroft Electrical Limited of Hoylandswaine are our chosen Electrical Contractor for carrying out quinquennial assessments, electrical installations, rewiring etc. They carried out a complete installation of a three phase system, achieving a very high standard of work, and installed high level outside security lights to supplement our alarm system. The work force, are well trained and well disciplined personnel with a high level of care to the fabric and Health and Safety. It is with great pleasure that I submit this reference in support of Philip Mosley and Norcroft Electrical Ltd.”
